:: Did you know?
Christopher Columbus discovered cigars! Although he traveled the Ocean Blue in 1492 and discovered the Americas, he did not actually invent cigars; they were around long before Columbus' time. For example Caribbean natives would use leaves to roll the tobacco or smoked through a smoking pipe. After observing this unique custom, Columbus brought back these cigars to Spain and the craft of cigar-making was perfected.
:: Cigar Consistency
As cigars are made by hand, the length of time spent rolling a cigar can improve its consistency. Cigars that are rolled for long durations of time by the same person will generally have a better taste and uniformity. Also, cigar leaves are like snowflakes: each a different texture, size and shape -- even if they're from the same farm or plant!
:: Storing Cigars
Cigars are natural, organic and sensitive to their environment. With this in mind, cigars must be properly maintained and stored. The best way to do this is to keep cigars in a humidor, a device or room that keeps cigars in conditions similar to those in which the tobacco grew and was rolled in. Humidor temperatures should stay between 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit with about 70% humidity. Cigars that are left out in an environment with a high humidity, can eventually grow mold or dry out.
